[BOS] Womxn Drink and Draw Night

The Boston Chapter of The Cosmos is excited to to kick off our first event of the year with a fun Drink & Draw event! Come connect with fellow Asian American womxn from the community as we draw the night away. Unlike the traditional drink & art experiences, we will provide prompts for participants to doodle/draw/paint/write about. All expertise levels, or lack of, are welcome! Our only hope is to bring people together, get a good flow of conversation going, and to have fun.

**When you get to Tatte, please make your way to the second floor where the meetup will be.

**We will supply all the art supplies, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like. As for food and drink, we encourage treating yourself to a Tatte indulgence :)

Something About the Asian Girls is the inaugural event for The Cosmos::San Diego, hosted by City Ambassadors Stacey Uy and Hailey Mitsui.

Something About the Asian Girls is an interactive art experience that honors Asian women through history who resisted the stereotypes that still underestimate us today. Get to know a new class of matriarchs, and celebrate a legacy of rule breaking and courage that is ours to inherit.

This will be one part art show, one part discussion and one part community building.

Because of space, we are limiting this initial gathering to 30 people. We recommend registering early.

[NY] Freelancer Taxes 101 with Tanya & Wesley

It's tax season! Join us for Freelance Taxes 101. A workshop for freelancers, hosted by freelancers.

This will be an intimate talk with hobbyist accountant Wesley and freelancer/ facilitator Tanya in the coziness of our home (location to be sent later). We'll be covering beginner tax topics specific to freelancers and artists!

TOPICS:

  • WHY: General overview of freelancers & why they need to pay taxes

  • WHAT: Terminology (W9, W2, 1099, tax & expense deductions etc)

  • HOW: Best practices for filing in 2019 as a freelancer

  • && Debunking freelance tax myths

TICKETS

  • In-Person Tickets $20: These are in-person tickets for those who reside in NYC. Very limited spots to keep the experience intimate!

  • Virtual Tickets $10: These are online attendance via conference link w/ video & sound streaming. We will not be taking questions from those online but will capture them before and try to get to all of them!

[DENVER] Colorado Dragon Film Festival Opening Night: L​ipstick Under My Burkha

Join The Cosmos Denver on opening night of the Colorado Dragon Film Festival. This year's festival theme is Women in Film & The Arts "to celebrate the creative presence and projects of women on screen, behind the scenes, and in the community." The festival will open with a movie called, Lipstick Under My Burkha, which is about four women on a journey to discover freedom and happiness in order to be independent and break free from the conservative society. Watch the trailer!

Buy your tickets for the movie at the Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake website HERE. Get them while they last! The movie begins at 7:30pm, but we invite you to join us for drinks at BarFly at the Alamo Drafthouse beforehand to meet each other and after the movie to debrief our feels if you'd like.

This event is open to Asians and non-Asians of all genders. So invite your friends! Kindly RSVP by Thursday, February 28th so that we can make sure to connect on that evening!

Well, we’ve tried (and failed) so we’re teaming up with floral and design collaboration Little Joy to show us the ropes! Nia and Melina will teach us how to create beautiful AND affordable floral arrangements. We’ll also be serving up tea-infused cocktails and other surprises courtesy of Tea with Inga. This workshop will take place on a private rooftop overlooking Gramercy Park - we can't wait to welcome you under the golden hour sunset lighting for optimal IG stories.

    [NY] Gendered Contradictions: An Interactive Storytelling Dinner

    What would you say if you knew that everyone is truly listening? Join us for Gendered Contradictions, an interactive storytelling dinner experience that brings 14 strangers - 7 men and 7 women - together in a supportive space to deconstruct some of the everyday assumptions, biases, and contradictions we each carry inside.

    Over a potluck-style dinner, we'll engage in dialogue to gain fresh perspectives and make new friends. Your ticket includes wine, a thoughtfully facilitated group experience, and storytelling exercises.

    This dinner is hosted in collaboration with Take Up Space, an annual storytelling project by artist and designer Bianca Ng. Conversations and activities will be facilitated by Bianca and Cassandra Lam, co-founder of The Cosmos.
