[DENVER] Colorado Dragon Film Festival Opening Night: Lipstick Under My Burkha

Join The Cosmos Denver on opening night of the Colorado Dragon Film Festival. This year's festival theme is Women in Film & The Arts "to celebrate the creative presence and projects of women on screen, behind the scenes, and in the community." The festival will open with a movie called, Lipstick Under My Burkha, which is about four women on a journey to discover freedom and happiness in order to be independent and break free from the conservative society. Watch the trailer!

Buy your tickets for the movie at the Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake website HERE. Get them while they last! The movie begins at 7:30pm, but we invite you to join us for drinks at BarFly at the Alamo Drafthouse beforehand to meet each other and after the movie to debrief our feels if you'd like.

This event is open to Asians and non-Asians of all genders. So invite your friends! Kindly RSVP by Thursday, February 28th so that we can make sure to connect on that evening!

"Lipstick Under My Burkha is an Indian comedy film written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. Originally banned in its country of origin for being "lady oriented," Lipstick Under My Burkha battled against the Censor Board of India before finally being released to the public. "The film premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, where it won the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality. The film turned out to be both a critical and commercial hit at the box office."

[Denver] Galentine's Day: Ladies Celebrating Ladies!

Join The Cosmos Denver to celebrate Galentine’s Day!

Just ladies celebrating ladies and enjoying crafts, cocktails, and conversation. Dinner provided! Kindly RSVP by Sunday, February 10th.

"The relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have."

Self-love is the act of putting your own happiness and well-being first. The more we are able to know, understand, and care for ourselves, the more meaningful and deeper connections we will have in our relationships with others. We can all be hard on ourselves at times. Most often, we are our own worst critic. However, when we take the time to take care of ourselves, we bring our best selves to our relationships with others.

On this evening, women are encouraged to share how they show self-love and how that affects relationships with significant others, families, friends, and other social supports. We hope you'll walk away feeling inspired, supported, and empowered to either continue or begin showing more self-love.

Crafts will include DIY personalized heart bracelets/necklaces (with polymer clay) and Valentine's Day cards. You can make them for others or for yourself!

Although this gathering is intended to bring Asian women together, we plan to host future events that welcome those who are non-Asian and of any gender.

[NY] The Cosmos Book Club No. 2: A Thousand Beginnings and Endings

The Cosmos Book Club is reading A Thousand Beginnings & Endings, a recently published story collection (and top community pick!) for our second gathering. The anthology contains fifteen reimagined short stories of East and South Asia folklore and ranges from fantasy to science fiction to romance. The book is compiled by We Need Diverse Books's Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman. We will engage in Cosmos style small group discussions around several of these stories and how it relates to us as multidimensional women.

We are also so excited to welcome two authors who contributed to the anthology: Preeti Chhibber, author of "Girls Who Twirl and Other Dangers", and Sona Charaipotra, author of "Still Star Crossed", will join us for a Q&A session following our discussion!!

[NY] Finding Confidence with Nisha Garigarn

Creators: Nisha Garigarn, Co-founder of Croissant & Cassandra Lam, Co-Founder of The Cosmos

Growing up Asian American likely means we’ve had to upset, disappoint, or disagree with family members at one point or another. When our sets of values clash, how do we navigate our relationships with loved ones and manage different sets of cultural expectations? How can we develop confidence to show up fully in our work and lives? Join us for an evening of conversation and new friendships as we explore this topic at our community gathering.

Community Gatherings strive to bring Asian women together to authentically connect, support, and learn from one another in intimate spaces. This is a donation-based offering.
